Remembering Charlie Fox

We are honoring the life and legacy of Charlie Fox, who touched the lives of so many. He was a beloved volunteer who worked tirelessly to help others find stability and hope through Habitat for Humanity.

Charlie moved to Starkville in 2011. He retired after serving 30 years in the National Guard, U.S. Navy, and Fleet Reserve (Korea and Vietnam Veteran), and from the Boeing Corporation. He enjoyed being a part of the American Legion Post 240 In Starkville.

He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, but his primary ministry was through Starkville Habitat for Humanity. He loved volunteering with the construction crew and meeting students, families, and other volunteers during home-building projects.

In the Spring of 2011, John Breazeale recalls first seeing Charlie walking onto the construction site. “He has a tousled look about him. When I saw him that day, I honestly thought he might be lost and in need of assistance, or that he was a panhandler.” Charlie simply walked onto the Habitat construction site and told the crew, “My name is Charlie Fox, and my wife told me to get out of the house and get some exercise.” and the rest was history. He fit right in with the rest of the crew. He is an irreplaceable “The Cube” or “C Cubed” member. This name derives from the names of the major players, Paul Cuicchi, Gray Carlisle, and Charlie Fox. Charlie, also known as “Chuckles,” often started his stories with, “This one time on the Saratoga…” The rest of the crew determined that his stories were either true or should be true. The Cube will not be the same without him.

John Breazeale adds, “These men that I have come to and love are some of the kindest, most generous people I’ve known. Their skills are enormous. They have a gift of presence that’s palpable to the volunteers. Their loyalty and service to the Habitat cause is immeasurable. I am honored and blessed to call these men my friends.”
