Meet our board President, Alyssa McKinley

Alyssa's most profound experience occurred during her high school years when an F5 tornado devastated her hometown and church. This tragic event led her to volunteer, feeding workers who came to assist and participating in the daily cleanup efforts. Through this experience, she discovered her passion for servant leadership and the deep fulfillment that comes from helping those in need.

Growing up, Alyssa was actively involved in her local FFA Chapter, where the creed emphasized values that resonated deeply with her: “I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make it so—for others as well as myself; in less need for charity and more of it when needed; in being happy myself and playing square with those whose happiness depends upon me.” These principles align perfectly with Starkville Habitat's mission, which supports individuals who are willing to work hard to build better lives for their families.

Looking ahead, Alyssa is most excited about the future of Habitat for Humanity and its unwavering commitment to creating sustainable and affordable housing for communities in need. The innovative approaches being developed have the potential to significantly reduce homelessness and improve living conditions worldwide. The chance to engage with diverse groups of volunteers and partner families truly inspires her. She eagerly anticipates how Habitat for Humanity will continue to transform lives and empower communities in the coming years.
