Calvin Vechinski is the first recipient of the Olivia Williams Habitat Construction Site Volunteer of the Year award. Mr. Vechinski showed up at the construction in August 2020 as an 18 year old MSU freshman kinesiology major. He found us through Cowbell Connect and was drawn in by the need for landscaping work . Mr. Vechinski has a part time landscape job at home in Huntsville, Al when he is not at State.
Calvin quickly caught on to many of the task he was assigned , this and the maturity he displayed allowed John to place him in a leadership role where he truly shined especially when COVID was huge problem. Currently Calvin is on his third home with Habitat for Humanity and has been dubbed by the old guard as ” Wonder Boy ”
A sophomore , Calvin holds down two part time jobs and maintains a 4.0 GPA, but Habitat is a priority that he balances well on his plate.
” One thing I really like and enjoy about Habitat is working and helping the community. I think Starkville Habitat a great job of trying to impress that on all the kids that come out of the importance of community service and serving others”
