International Paper Company grants $1,000 for construction of our 12th maroon edition home.

September 1, 2020 by Amanda Henry

We are so pleased to announce that we have been granted $1,000 from the International Paper Company. This grant will help us further the construction of our current house and continue our help in the community.

The International Paper Foundation is one of the ways International Paper strives to reach its vision to be among the most successful, sustainable, and responsible companies in the world. Started in 1952, the foundation annually provides millions in grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations to address critical needs in the communities where its employees live and work. Funding priority is given to programs related to its signature causes: education, hunger, health & wellness, disaster relief, and initiatives that improve the planet. 12th Annual Maroon Edition Groundbreaking

August 3, 2020 by Amanda Henry

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Monday, August 3, for the 12th annual Maroon Edition Home.  The Maroon Edition Home is a special collaboration between Starkville Habitat and Mississippi State University.  This year’s Maroon Edition home will be called the Matt Savage Maroon Edition in honor of Captain Matt Savage, U.S. Army, a former Starkvillian who was seriously injured in a traffic accident in 2018.  Captain Savage’s attorney, Wayne Rogers, made a generous donation to Starkville Habitat in Matt’s honor.

Congratulations to homeowners-to-be Chadrick Robinson and Santana Turnipseed and their children Kimona, Harmony, Rolando, Caitlyn, and Chadstyn!

The ReStore is Reopening

May 12, 2020 by Amanda Henry

We’ve got some exciting news! Next Thursday, May 21, the ReStore will be open to the public! We have a lot of donated inventory, so we’re spending this week organizing, cleaning, and preparing to open so you and your family can have a safe shopping trip. But if you’ve been doing some spring cleaning, we are accepting donations now and would be glad to take any furniture, building materials, or home goods off your hands! Thank you for your continued support!

For the health of our customers, volunteers and staff, please wear a face covering in the store, keep a six-foot distance from others and sanitize often. If you’ve experienced a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other COVID-19 symptoms in the last 24 hours, please stay home. Thank you for understanding.

Collegiate Challenge Kicks Off

March 8, 2020 by Amanda Henry

On March 8th, Habitat kicked off our Collegiate Challenge with the groundbreaking for 60 Azalea Lane. Our first week of the challenge is led by volunteers from Rockford University in Rockford, Illinois. Throughout the week, these students and alumni will help build a home for Habitat partner Courtney Smith.

At the groundbreaking, Courtney expressed gratitude for everyone who has helped her in her journey towards being a homeowner.

“It’s been two years,” Courtney said, “but, it has been worth it.”

Starkville Mayor Lynn Spruill also spoke, thanking the Rockford volunteers for their continued service to the community.

Our construction manager, John Breazeale thanked the volunteers for donating their time and introduced them to our construction team. If you’d like to join the team and volunteer to help build Courtney’s home, contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
