Apostles’ House

The Apostles’ House is a Habitat home sponsored by area churches that are working together to build this home just as Christ’s Apostles worked together to spread Jesus” message. Churches donate money for building supplies, and along with college students from other states, provide labor to build this house. Additionally, churches support this activity by providing meals and refreshments for the visiting college students.

#49 – 2012 Apostles’ House – 56 Murdock Lane

The partner family for this house is a single mother of two children. The mother is a hard worker, working for the same business for over nine years and has continued to advance. This family is moving from a very small and crowded apartment with poor plumbing. The mother feels that having a Habitat home of their own is the breakthrough for which they have been waiting and the children are excited about having a yard of their own.

#48 – 2012 Apostles’ House – 63 Murdock Lane

This partner family is a single mother of two children, who has been working at her job for four years. The daughter told Habitat that having a home of her own is a dream come true for her mother. The family is currently living in a small, run-down rented home. They cannot wait to have a safe environment to live in.

#46 – 2011 Apostles’ House – 29 Greenwood Street

This Partner Family includes a father, mother, two sons, and a grand-daughter. The father has been working at the same place for 11 years and the mother, who is on oxygen part time and has some disability in her legs, is unable to work outside the home. One of the sons is also partially disabled.  The family moved into their new home from a small, older 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. They were crammed for space in their current situation and are happy they have better air to breathe without the mold problems they dealt with in their apartment.

#45 – 2011 Apostles’ House – 15 Greenwood Street

This house is next door to 29 Greenwood and they were built at the same time. These two houses were were both kicked off with our Collegiate Challenge volunteers and finished by local Starkville volunteers. The partner family for this house is a mother and father and two sons, ages 12 and 13. This family moved from a very small apartment where the kids were not even allowed to play outside. The new Habitat ome is a blessing for this family who were homeless for a time a fews years before they moved into their Habitat Home.

#43 – The 2010 Apostles’ House – 153 Bennett Drive

The partner family for this home is a working mother and father of eight children. They moved from a two bedroom apartment with one closet converted to a bedroom. The ten member family shared one bathroom. Their new Habitat home is a four bedroom, two bathroom house giving the family more space and better living conditions.

#41 – The 2009 Apostles’ House – 103 Henderson Street

A mother and five children, ages 17, 14, 13, 10, and 5 were selected as the partner family for this home. This family moved into their Habitat home from a small, crowded apartment needing much repair. Due to safety concerns, the children were not allowed outside the home to play. The excitement homeownership brings to this family was clearly seen as the family worked along side volunteers to help build their new Habitat home. This family views homeownership as a life changing opportunity that will impact not only this family, but future generations.

#38 – The 2008 Apostles’ House – 322 Apple Street

This Partner Family includes a working mother with two children of her own (ages 14 and 10), and two children (ages 14 and 9) she is raising for her deceased sister. The family is currently living in a crowded trailer, needing much repair. This family is not only excited about owning their own home, but also the new opportunity in life homeownership brings to the entire family.
